The Protective Benefits of Garage Floor Paint

If you use your garage on a daily basis to store your cars, an epoxy paint should be used. It won’t peel from the tires going over it like normal paint. It’s a little difficult to apply, but it will last you a lot longer and protect your floor better than normal paint. Essentially, it’s a two-step process: you’ll apply your first coat, wait 24 hours, then apply your second coat once the first coat is dry. Just a little warning, your floor can get really slippery when the epoxy gets wet.

But, if you use your garage as a workshop or spare room, normal paint should be fine. It’s really easy to apply, affordable, and your concrete doesn’t need to be in great condition. It also comes in a wider variety of colors. The only drawback is that you’ll need to repaint on a yearly basis if you use garage ever day.

If your floor is filled with cracks and holes, make sure to fill them with epoxy concrete patching before painting it. If you don’t do this, they paint will chip and peel around those spots. Also, you want to make sure that the floor is thoroughly cleaned before painting. If there is any dirt, grease, or oil on the floor, the paint will not adhere to the concrete properly.

Keeping your garage floor clean and looking new can be a challenge. But, there are a couple of tricks you can use to avoid damaging your floor. First, you want to avoid dragging heavy objects over your floor without casters underneath them. You’ll gauge the paint if don’t use casters. If you notice some cracking or peeling here and there, do a quick touch up so that you don’t always have repaint the whole floor ever year.
