The Advantages of Granite Countertops

15 January 2009

In the last few years the number of people purchasing granite countertops has substantially increased. One of the main reasons is that the production costs of manufacturing them have decreased and hence they have become more affordable.

The majority of people who purchase these countertops are attracted by their sleek and sophisticated appearance. There is also a wide range of colours available which means that they can complement different colour schemes.

Apart from the fact that granite countertops are extremely pleasant to look at, they are also very durable. The durability of these countertops is one of their major advantages and selling points. They can support hot or cold cooking pans without the surface being damaged. Those who like to bake, also often have a preference for granite countertops over and above others as they can roll out dough and pastry directly onto the flat, smooth surface. Chefs love granite countertops.

As a result of their durability it is an investment in the long term, as once installed, you will not need to change your kitchen countertops again for a good number of years. You will however need to take good care of them.

Although they are hardwearing and durable, they do need to be looked after. You should arrange for them to be periodically sealed so that they are protected from stains and spilling. When cleaning them you need to make sure that you use soft, clean clothes which are not abrasive in any manner. The same rule applies to any solvents or liquids that you use to clean them with. You should under no circumstances use abrasive solvents or products. If you look after these countertops carefully and make sure that they are regularly sealed they will last you for many years to come.
